ABOUT US
Established in November 2013 by business teacher, Mrs. James.
Abilene High School is fortunate to have a school-based enterprise, Stick ‘Em Up, which operates through the class: Visual Marketing and Design. To help with the success of our business, Stick 'Em Up is incorporated within several classes that Mrs. James teaches. Stick 'Em Up is managed and operated by students as hands-on learning laboratories that integrate standards in several of our pathways that we offer at AHS. Stick 'Em up provides realistic and practical learning experiences that reinforce classroom instruction in Introduction to Business, Accounting, Computer Essentials II, Cowboy Creations. Stick ‘Em Up is a major learning component in both the Web and Digital Communications pathway and the Business Finance pathway. All funds raised are reinvested into the business - equipment and supplies; used for student leadership opportunities, conferences and scholarship.
Students have to complete a sequence of courses to qualify to be a part of the Stick 'Em Up team.
Stick ‘Em Up is a very successful school-based business because of the support of USD 435, the community and surrounding areas. We have built up a repeat customer base and pride ourselves in the business that we have become. We believe in quality, spreading positivity, doing good, and giving students unique opportunities through the funds raised. We pride ourselves with customer service and will go above and beyond to make our customers happy. We continuously look for ideas to improve our knowledge to make Stick ‘Em Up the best it can be and constantly seek out new trends, and new equipment.
The success of Stick ‘Em Up depends on the commitment of students in the Stick ‘Em Up class, as these students are responsible for planning, designing, producing, marketing, and selling items that are sold as part of their coursework.
Through the funds raised, Stick ‘Em Up has the ability to help students start their own business, if they have completed certain requirements, and filled out an application form.
Stick ‘Em Up is a class at Abilene High School in which students design and create a variety of products, having the opportunity to display and share their unique creative and ideas. Students gain real world business knowledge, helping run our school based business. The funds raised by Stick 'Em Up allows Abilene's FBLA chapter to attend several business conferences and events. This gives them the opportunity to compete, network, travel, and gain skills in business and leadership. In classes offered throughout our department, students will learn how to effectively run a business by gaining hands on experience in:
The Stick 'Em Up class prides itself on students creating original designs, however, we also purchase designs from various quality vendors. Stick 'Em Up is also very active on social media to keep up with the latest design trends. Mrs. James and her students share many ideas together to inspire each other and create something special.
Stick 'Em Up also works to complete projects with other curricular areas such as Photo Journalism and Graphic Design.
